Congratulate to our founder member Barbara on completing her thesis and Viva and I’m sure you’ll join with me in wishing her luck wherever her career takes her. She was the inspiration and guiding force behind the club and I know it has helped us all greatly over the past while in our writing, we really miss her input.

The first member of our writing club to not only submit his PhD thesis but also performed extraordinarily well in his Viva is Edward Hinds! We are very happy for him, yet sad that he is leaving us shortly. Ed is one of the founding members of our Writing Club and we value him for his commitment, great contributions, and his love of detail. We will all miss him, but wish him the best of luck in the future, and Ed you always have a home in Galway!

We had a very interesting and informative workshop and conversation with both Orla McGarry and Ed Hinds on Friday 25th May on submitting a PhD thesis. Both Orla and Ed have recently submitted and gave some very useful insight into the procedures and pitfalls that accompany the submission processes.

In November 2010 Dr. Kate Kenny held an informative talk to the writing club on publishing in academic journals. It was great to hear about the tipps and tricks of a well published young researcher and chat about difficulties related to getting published.
